Jeff Andresen is Associate Professor of Meteorology/Climatology in the Department of Geography, the State Climatologist for Michigan, and director of the Michigan Automated Weather Network (MAWN). His research and extension interests focus on weather and climate on agriculture, especially within Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. Current and past themes include; climatological trends and potential impacts, water use for agricultural irrigation, potential future changes in climate, and weather and risk management in agricultural production and plant protection. He is co-director of the project.
Mike Brewer is coordinator of the MSU IPM Program and Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology. His extension and research focus on deployment of IPM tactics in plant-based agricultural industries, including use of vegetation management approaches and weather information to optimize the management of pest and beneficial organisms. He co-teaches a course in IPM and Ag Policy. He is co-director of the project.
Tracy Aichele is jointly appointed in the Departments of Geography and Plant Pathology. Tracy is the chief programmer for the Enviro-weather website. She works with workgroup participants to combine raw weather data with models to produce useful reports and web pages. Fifty percent of Tracy’s professional time is committed to the Enviro-weather project.
Jim Brown is an IT professional specializing in UNIX systems administration for the Departments of Geography and Fisheries and Wildlife. He is the key systems analyst for MAWN and provides technical support to Enviro-weather. Fifty percent of Jim's appointment is committed to the MAWN and the Enviro-weather project.
Steve Marquie is jointly appointed in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering and the Department of Geography. Steve manages the field operations of the weather station network and coordinates maintenance and repair with additional field technical staff. In this role, he designs and implements new weather monitoring systems, provides technical resources for workgroups and users for data logging, remote measurements, and field GPS/GIS technology. In addition, Steve coordinates and teaches several classes in Technology Systems Management. Fifty percent of Steve’s professional time is committed to the Enviro-weather project.
Aaron Pollyea is appointed in the Department of Geography and works in the Climatology Office. He also works with the Enviro-weather team helping to ensure data quality and data processing. Twenty-five percent of Aaron’s professional time is committed to the Enviro-weather project.
Mark Trent is appointed in the Department of Entomology. Mark coordinates work groups comprised of Enviro-weather users, agriculture industry and natural resource professionals, and University staff to prioritize pest management, ag production, and natural resource educational services. Mark leads the publications and training curricula effort in support of training and educational materials related to Enviro-weather. Mark devotes 100% of his professional time to the project.
Joy Landis is the webmaster of the IPM Resources website, which provides integrated pest management information related to the models available at Enviro-weather. She is also the editor and program coordinator of the Crop Advisory Team (CAT) Alert newsletters. The newsletters report on current season crop and pest status and are linked through Enviro-weather. Joy provides service to the project courtesy of the MSU Integrated Pest Management Program.
